Dr. James Melisi

Dr. Melisi has been in private practice since 1993. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Melisi graduated magna cum laude in biology from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1981 and received his medical degree from State University of New York, Downstate College of Medicine in 1986. He completed a seven year Neurosurgery residency at George Washington University Hospital in 1993.

His awards and honors include being included in the Guide to Americas Top Surgeons in 2006 and 2007, in Consumers Checkbook Guide to Top Doctors 2003, 2005, 2007, Washingtonian Magazine Top Doctors 2002 and 2005.

He was the chief resident in 1992-1993, recognized in 1991 by the American Association of Neurological Surgeons Joint Section on Brain Tumors with the Mahaley Clinical Research Award, and the winner of the Hugo Rizzoli Award in 1990 for excellence in Neurosurgical Residency Training.

Dr. Melisi was a research Fellow at the National Institutes of Health (Bethesda, MD), and won a fellowship at the National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery (London, UK).

His appointments include being the Clinical Associate Professor of Neurosurgery George Washington University Medical Center, and AO at the North America Spine Faculty.

Dr. Melisi frequently lectures and writes on neurosurgical critical care and spinal trauma. Topics include: Principles of Spinal Disorders for Operating Room Personnel AO ASIF Nursing Continuing Education; Principles and Treatment of Spinal Disorders; AO ASIF for Residents and Fellows; and The Back & Neck Facts.
